Individual Trauma Recovery

Have you been experiencing excessive anxiety, worry, or feelings of dread?

Or, have you been overly critical of ourself and fluctuate from too much boundaries to too little?

If you’ve answered yes to any or the above questions. Individual EMDR trauma therapy can help.

Did you know that according to the National Council for Behavioral Health, 70% of adults have experienced at least one traumatic event in their life?

If our trauma remains unresolved, then we continue to experience such problematic symptoms while our potential for joy and ease is tethered.

Common question: What is EMDR and how can that help?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy highly recommended to treat PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Further, it has been found to be an effective treatment for addiction, eating disorders, and sexual dysfunction, among others.

It’s based on the theory that traumatic memories have been stored in the brain in a maladaptive way causing distress.

With the use of bilateral stimulation, typically eye movements (similarly seen in REM sleep), tapping, or tones, we are able to re-process a traumatic memory in a healthy, adaptive way.

Fortunately, with EMDR we are able to reduce or eliminate the emotional response to the memory, then we are able to re-process the memory and store it properly in the brain.

Once the memory is appropriately stored in the brain, it will no longer elicit a trauma response

Traumatic experiences often result in negative beliefs about ourselves (“I’m not safe”, “I am not worthy of love”, etc.).

Through reprocessing, it helps replace the negative belief with a positive one (“I deserve love”, “I am not in danger”, etc.)

Traditional talk therapy focuses on the exploration and processing of the emotions, thoughts, and responses resulting from a traumatic experience.

EMDR differs in that it directly addresses the specific memory of the experience and the emotions, thoughts, and bodily sensations related to the memory.

Typically EMDR treatment is much quicker than traditional talk therapy, usually lasting between 6-12 sessions.

In addition to traditional sessions, Kayla Crane is offering EMDR intensives where you can experience results faster.
